Lesson 2 - Installation

This lesson descibes the installation of both the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) and the CADEMIA system.


1. Java Installation

In order to install the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) please follow the instructions below.

  1. Download the latest version of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) from the Java website http://java.sun.com after selecting operating system and language.
  2. Install the JRE by executing the downloaded file (e.g. jre-xxx-windows-i586-p.exe). Follow the instructions on the screen.
  3. Check if Java works: Open OS dependent command shell and run command java -version.

2. CADEMIA Installation

In order to install the CADEMIA system for your specific Operating System please follow the instructions below.


2.1 Windows

  1. Download the latest Windows EXE-Installer of CADEMIA from the CADEMIA website http://www.cademia.org.
  2. Install CADEMIA by executing the downloaded file (e.g. CADEMIA_x.x.x_setup.exe). Follow the instructions on the screen.
  3. Check if CADEMIA works: Run CADEMIA via the desktop icon or the start menu.

2.2 Mac OS X

  1. Download the latest Mac OS X version of CADEMIA from the CADEMIA website http://www.cademia.org/.
  2. Extract the downloaded file (e.g. CADEMIA_x.x.x_mac.zip) into your progamm directory.
  3. Check if CADEMIA works: Run CADEMIA via double-clicking the CADEMIA.app file.

2.3 Linux

  1. Download the latest platform independent CADEMIA version (without installer) from the CADEMIA website http://www.cademia.org/.
  2. Extract the downloaded file (e.g. CADEMIA_x.x.x.zip) into a desired folder.
  3. Check if CADEMIA works: Run CADEMIA via double-clicking the cademia.jar file.
