Here is a list of frequently asked questions that might help in using CADEMIA:

1. Where is the snap function to grid points?
2. Is there an area fill?
3. How do I set / reset the origin?
4. What is the function of additional windows? Can different windows show different layers of the same model?
5. How do I set the ratio world coordinates to model coordinates?
6. Can points (and their related objects, like lines, curves, shading, etc,) be moved?
7. Can certain items (or groups of items, or classes of items) be attached a unique name, so that a Bill of Materials can be generated by a simple search of the model?
8. Is there a copy / clone function implemented?
9. A macro possibility would be handy.
10. A parametric design capability of standard sections / modules would speed up work and enhance accuracy of routine items.
11. When defining a new layer, there appears a panel asking for a name and semantics. What is meant by that?
12. When rotating I expected a clockwise movement but it went counterclockwise. Why is that?

Question: Where is the snap function to grid points?

Answer:
Snap function is located inside the construction point.
For instance >Info >Construction point >Settings >Grid changes the Default digitizing mode to grid snap.
This can be done whenever the construction point is called (which happens very frequently)

Question: Is there an area fill?

Answer:
An area fill is implemented: >Modify >Attributes >Fill paint.
Be sure to select one or more fillable components, for instance of type circle.
You should also have defined one or more fill paints. The most convenient way to populate the attribute set is
via >Attributes >Add DIN Attributes.
Area and circumference could be easily calculated.

Question: How do I set / reset the origin?

Answer:
The origin can be set via >Misc >UCS.

Question: What is the function of additional windows? Can different windows show different layers of the same model?

Answer:
Although our windows have the same projection (always XY in 2D) they show different rectangles of the projection plane.
This is very useful during work.
For instance, you could show the whole model inside window 4 (>Window >Window fit) and
leave it throughout the construction session.
Changing the viewport in one of the other windows can easily be done by defining a rectangle in window 4.

Question: How do I set the ratio world coordinates to model coordinates?

Answer:
This can't be done currently by the user.

Question: Can points (and their related objects, like lines, curves, shading, etc,) be moved?

Answer:
Yes, of course, points can be moved. You have to select one or more control points and move them by for instance >Modify >Translate or >Rotate. All of our components have control points.

Question: Can certain items [or groups of items, or classes of items] be attached a unique name, so that a Bill of Materials can be generated by a simple search of the model?

Answer:
Our components are attached to unique names when they are added to the database. The naming scheme cannot be currently controlled by the user. CADEMIA starts with the name "obj0" then "obj1" and so on.
We could, however, provide for a functionality that the user could configure the naming of components.
Then, the user should be able to enter a name or a prefix that is concatenated with a number to be generated.
Such a functionality is already contained in the CADEMIA classes.

Question: Is there a copy / clone function implemented?

Answer:
A clone function is already implemented: >Add >Copy allows you to clone the selected components exactly once.
>Add >CopyArray creates a rectangular grid of clones. Copying along a curve is not implemented yet.

Question: A macro possibility would be handy.

Answer:
A macro possibility is already implemented. One of our next development tasks is the support of variables and procedures.

Question: A parametric design capability of standard sections / modules would speed up work and enhance accuracy of routine items.

Answer:
Parametric design is possible via Java commands or, to a limited extent, via macros.

Question: When defining a new layer, there appears a panel asking for a name and semantics. What is meant by that?

Answer:
The semantics of a layer denotes the meaning of this layer: For instance, the layer "Walls" should be assigned to walls.

Question: When rotating I expected a clockwise movement but it went counterclockwise. Why is that?

Answer:
Angles are always defined mathematically: Positive direction from x- to y-axis.
